DreamSmart Group's CMO, Wan Zhiqiang, stated that rising memory costs have disrupted their commercial plans. Counterpoint Research reported a 40-50% increase in memory prices in Q4 2025, with further rises expected. This situation reflects broader issues in the global memory supply chain, affecting other manufacturers like Xiaomi and Honor, who are also raising prices to adapt to the market." datetime: "2026-01-12T11:00:42.000Z" locales: - [zh-CN](https://longbridge.com/zh-CN/news/272257383.md) - [en](https://longbridge.com/en/news/272257383.md) - [zh-HK](https://longbridge.com/zh-HK/news/272257383.md) --- > 支持的語言: [简体中文](https://longbridge.com/zh-CN/news/272257383.md) | [English](https://longbridge.com/en/news/272257383.md) # Surging memory-chip prices force Chinese smartphone maker Meizu to abandon launch The global memory-chip crunch has forced a mainland Chinese smartphone manufacturer to pull the plug on the launch of a new handset, making it one of the first cancellations affecting the wider industry due to surging prices of the key component.\\nDreamSmart Group said that its Meizu smartphone brand had cancelled the release of Meizu 22 Air, a slim handset similar to Apple’s iPhone Air.\\n“The sharp rise in memory prices since the fourth quarter has not only impacted \[production\] costs, but also dealt a huge shock to our commercial plan for smartphones,” Wan Zhiqiang, the chief marketing officer at DreamSmart, said in a live-streamed event on Saturday.\\nThe entire industry was downsizing its product portfolios amid a supply chain crunch, Wan said, adding that Meizu would focus its resources on products that the company truly needed.\\n\\nCounterpoint Research said last week that memory-chip prices had jumped 40 to 50 per cent in the fourth quarter of 2025. It added that prices could rise by another 40 to 50 per cent in this year’s first quarter and another 20 per cent in the second quarter.\\nMeizu, founded in 2007, was once one of the most popular smartphone brands on the mainland, but it gradually faded due to the cutthroat domestic competition.\\nIt was acquired in 2022 by carmaker Zhejiang Geely Holding Group. In 2024, Meizu announced that it would terminate new projects related to traditional smartphones to pursue an “all in AI” strategy.\\nThe cancellation of Meizu 22 Air’s launch reflects the broader problems in the global memory supply chain, as leading manufacturers prioritise capacity for customers tied to the surging demand for artificial intelligence chips.\\nThe soaring memory prices have also sent shock waves through the global electronics industry, with Chinese manufacturers like Xiaomi and Honor announcing plans to raise the prices of their smartphones and tablets.\\nXiaomi president Lu Weibing said in an earnings call in November that Xiaomi planned to offset the situation by optimising its product mix and increasing the average selling price of its products.\\n“\[Some players\] will fall behind or even leave the game,” Lu said. “In trying times, companies will have to compete on which one is better prepared or more deep-pocketed.”\\n ### 相關股票 - [Xiaomi HK SDR 2to1 (HXXD.SG)](https://longbridge.com/zh-HK/quote/HXXD.SG.md) - [Xiaomi Corporation (XIACY.US)](https://longbridge.com/zh-HK/quote/XIACY.US.md) - [XIAOMI-W (01810.HK)](https://longbridge.com/zh-HK/quote/01810.HK.md) ## 相關資訊與研究 - [The screen between us: Smartphones and the global fertility crash](https://longbridge.com/zh-HK/news/281037016.md) - [There are 10 trillion-dollar stocks on the market.
