# David Webb, a 60-year-old former director of the Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing and independent stock commentator, has passed away, known for exposing "mystery stocks."

On January 13th local time, former director of the Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing (HKEX) and independent stock commentator David Webb passed away at the age of 60 due to illness. Webb frequently named listed companies that he believed were negligent, among which the most famous were the 50 "mysterious network" companies he identified. According to Webb, these networks, composed of brokers, construction companies, and other firms, had common owners and business relationships, leading to artificially inflated stock prices. HKEX expressed deep sorrow over David Webb's passing, noting that he served as an independent non-executive director from 2003 to 2008, during which he worked to enhance market transparency, strengthen investor protection, and actively fulfill the role of independent directors, contributing to corporate governance and market development at HKEX
