# Google asks a U.S. judge to delay the order requiring it to share data during its appeal

According to court documents, Google's parent company Alphabet requested a judge on Friday to delay an order requiring it to share data with competitors, while also challenging the ruling that found the company guilty of illegal monopoly in the online search sector.

U.S. District Judge Amit Mehta ruled in 2024 that Google used illegal means to maintain its dominance in the online search field. Google stated in court documents on Friday that it would urge the federal appeals court to overturn this ruling.

Google argued that Mehta went too far in attempting to create a fair competitive environment by ordering the company to share data with competitors, including generative artificial intelligence companies like OpenAI, the maker of ChatGPT.

The company stated that complying with the order could expose trade secrets, which could not be recovered even if the appeal is successful, and therefore requested Mehta to suspend this part of the ruling
