description: "BYD has extended its battery warranty in Europe to eight years or 250,000 kilometers, benefiting high-mileage drivers. This update increases the kilometer limit from 200,000 km while maintaining the eight-year period. The warranty applies to all battery-electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids, excluding the eTP3 van. Existing BYD owners in the European Economic Area, Switzerland, and the UK will also benefit from this enhancement, which aims to boost confidence in New Energy Vehicles. The warranty guarantees a battery capacity of at least 70 percent during the coverage period."

# BYD extends battery warranty to 250,000 kilometres

The update increases the guaranteed kilometre limit from 200,000 to 250,000 km, while the warranty period remains unchanged at eight years. This means the 50,000 km increase primarily benefits high-mileage drivers who cover long distances in a short period, though the warranty still expires after eight years. Under ideal conditions, this would allow for an average of 31,250 kilometres per year to fully utilise the warranty period.

The extended battery warranty applies to all battery-electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids from BYD, with the exception of the electric van eTP3, as was already the case in Norway. It is important not to confuse this battery warranty with BYD’s basic vehicle warranty of six years or 150,000 km (which remains unchanged), the twelve-year unlimited-kilometre warranty against rust perforation, or the electric drivetrain warranty of eight years or 150,000 km.

Most electric vehicle drivers are unlikely to reach 250,000 kilometres within eight years. The benefit therefore primarily applies to owners who drive extensively. The other warranty conditions remain unchanged: in addition to the eight-year term, this includes the guaranteed “State of Health” (SOH) of the battery, set at 70 percent. In other words, BYD must replace, repair, or otherwise rectify the issue if the battery capacity falls below 70 percent during the warranty period.

“This mileage increase is designed to further strengthen user confidence in New Energy Vehicles – and it will apply to not only new cars but also all existing BYD models. So existing European owners with a BYD EV or Super Hybrid will automatically benefit from the expanded coverage,” BYD states. Specifically, the enhanced warranty applies in the countries of the European Economic Area (EEA), Switzerland, and the United Kingdom.
