# TSX Sets Fresh Record High and Weekly Gains

The S&P TSX Composite rose 0.4% to close at a fresh record high of 33,145 on Friday, ending the week up 0.3%, as gains in resource-linked stocks largely offset weakness in technology and financials while investors reassessed Canada’s growth outlook.

Energy shares led advances, with Canadian Natural Resources, Suncor, Imperial Oil, and Cenovus climbing between 1.2% and 1.3% as oil prices rose and headed for a fifth consecutive weekly increase.

Mining stocks also added support, with Barrick and Wheaton Precious Metals up 3.1% and 1%, respectively, after gold surged to a fresh record high amid heightened geopolitical uncertainty.

In contrast, major banks including BMO and TD Bank, along with Brookfield, slipped between 0.2% and 1.3%.

On the macro front, weaker December retail sales underscored lingering consumer fragility, tempering confidence that the Bank of Canada has finished easing policy.
