# Report: BYD's head in Chile confirms that the company has abandoned its local lithium project plans

Chilean media Diario Financier reported that BYD's Chile head Tamara Berrios stated that the company has abandoned its project plan to invest $290 million in building a lithium battery cathode material factory in the country due to failure to reach an agreement with the local government. She mentioned that the local government's response was very slow, and BYD was unable to even enter the stage of submitting the permit application documents; the decline in lithium prices was also one of the reasons for the company's abandonment of the project
