# Watsons promises to reduce virgin plastic by 21% by 2030 and promote reusable and easily recyclable packaging

CK Hutchison Holdings (001) subsidiary Watsons Group announced that it has further enhanced its plastic reduction targets by supporting the Ellen MacArthur Foundation's "Global Commitment on Plastics 2030," committing to reduce the use of virgin plastic in its own brand packaging by 21% by 2030, using 2022 as the baseline year.

## Commitment Covers Four Major Own Brand Plastic Packaging

Watsons Group stated that this commitment covers four major categories of its own brand plastic packaging, including product packaging, in-store shopping bags, online shopping packaging, and disposable plastics in warehouses, all of which are core areas for the group to reduce its environmental impact. The group indicated that to achieve its plastic reduction goals, it is implementing more sustainable packaging designs across its retail brands and various markets.

The group pointed out that to reach its targets, it will continue to strengthen plastic reduction measures by eliminating unnecessary packaging in global operations, increasing the content of recycled plastics, promoting reusable and easily recyclable packaging designs, and further expanding refill and reuse programs.

## Watsons: Measurable Source Reduction of Plastics

Sebastien Pivet, Chief Sustainability Officer and Quality Assurance Director of Watsons Group, stated that reducing plastic waste is one of the most urgent environmental issues today, and retailers bear the responsibility of driving change. She mentioned that concrete and measurable actions are being taken to implement source reduction of plastics in all operational markets, significantly accelerating the pace of plastic reduction in business operations by promoting refill and reuse programs and increasing the proportion of recycled materials used
