# 52 executives from South Korea have been prosecuted for allegedly manipulating the prices of livelihood commodities

The Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office in South Korea reported on the 2nd that since September 2025, 52 executives from 12 companies have been prosecuted for manipulating food prices and colluding in power equipment bidding, driving up prices of goods closely related to people's livelihoods, such as flour, sugar, and power equipment, severely disrupting market order, with the amount involved nearing 100 trillion won. The prosecution also reported that CJ CheilJedang Corporation and Samyang Foods were accused of conspiring to adjust the range and timing of sugar price changes between February 2021 and April 2025, during which sugar prices rose by as much as 66.7%, with the amount involved approximately 32.7 trillion won. Two executives from these two companies have been detained and prosecuted, while another nine have been prosecuted without detention. Additionally, multiple executives from ten other companies have been prosecuted for colluding in power equipment bidding
