In a report, Krinsky highlighted the stark contrast between winners and losers: CBRE Group (CBRE.US) saw its stock price plummet 24% from its historical high within two days, marking the largest weekly decline since the financial crisis; meanwhile, data center real estate investment trust Equinix (EQIX.US) surged 11% in a single trading day, achieving one of its best single-day performances in nearly a decade. The BTIG strategist warned that although this volatility largely remains beneath the surface and has not significantly impacted major indices, this situation may soon change. "However, at some point, we start to worry that the weak will overwhelm the strong, and the market will become fragile," he said. Krinsky pointed out that the S&P 500 index is still struggling at the 7,000-point level, and the latter half of February typically represents a seasonally weak period. Given the dislocation at the individual stock level, the coming weeks may be quite challenging. The software sector is particularly concerning, the strategist noted. Krinsky further explained, "The software sector really needs to hold its recent lows." He emphasized that although the sector exhibited characteristics of a "capitulation sell-off" last week, a drop below recent lows would indicate that a deeper decline is brewing. Perhaps most critically, this BTIG technical analyst warned that as other sectors remain turbulent, the semiconductor sector must continue to bear the load. "Given the significant declines in software stocks and other types of individual stocks, the market indeed needs the semiconductor sector to continue to shoulder the burden," he stated.
