Micron Technology is ramping up production capacity to address the most severe supply tightness in the memory industry in over 40 years. In Boise, where the company is headquartered, Micron Technology is investing $50 billion to more than double the size of its 450-acre campus, which includes the construction of two new chip factories (i.e., fabs). The first silicon wafers from the initial fab are expected to roll off the line in mid-2027 for the production of DRAM, a type of memory used to manufacture high-bandwidth memory (HBM) chips, which are increasingly important for advanced artificial intelligence (AI) computing. Both factories are expected to be operational by the end of 2028. That's not all. Near Syracuse, Micron Technology has just broken ground on a $100 billion fab complex, the largest private investment in New York State's history. At the end of last year, Micron Technology announced a $9.6 billion investment to build a fab in Hiroshima, Japan, while its competitor SK Hynix announced in January that it would build a $13 billion fab in South Korea. Additionally, the company is constructing a $4 billion manufacturing complex in Indiana. Behind this frenzied manufacturing arms race is the AI boom. As large language models become increasingly complex, and companies like OpenAI, Oracle, xAI, and Anthropic announce grand plans to build trillion-dollar data centers, the demand for memory chips has far outstripped capacity. "I've worked here for 28 years, and I've never seen anything as disruptive as AI," said Scott Gatzemeier, vice president responsible for Micron Technology's $200 billion U.S. expansion plan. "As we shift from training to inference, the amount of data required skyrockets, and we simply don't have enough cleanroom capacity to meet the demand. We realized we have a huge problem." The supply shortage has created a gold rush for Micron Technology and its two major competitors, SK Hynix and Samsung, among memory chip manufacturers. Since April of last year, Micron Technology's stock price has surged more than fivefold to around $414, bringing the company's market value close to $500 billion ### 相關股票 - [Micron Tech (MU.US)](https://longbridge.com/zh-HK/quote/MU.US.md) - [SPDR S&P Semicon (XSD.US)](https://longbridge.com/zh-HK/quote/XSD.US.md) - [iShares Semiconductor ETF (SOXX.US)](https://longbridge.com/zh-HK/quote/SOXX.US.md) - [Invesco PHLX Semiconductor ETF (SOXQ.US)](https://longbridge.com/zh-HK/quote/SOXQ.US.md) - [Direxion Daily MU Bear 1X Shares (MUD.US)](https://longbridge.com/zh-HK/quote/MUD.US.md) - [GraniteShares 2x Long MU Daily ETF (MULL.US)](https://longbridge.com/zh-HK/quote/MULL.US.md) - [Invesco Semiconductors ETF (PSI.US)](https://longbridge.com/zh-HK/quote/PSI.US.md) - [Direxion Daily MU Bull 2X Shares (MUU.US)](https://longbridge.com/zh-HK/quote/MUU.US.md) - [Direxion Semicon Bull 3X (SOXL.US)](https://longbridge.com/zh-HK/quote/SOXL.US.md) - [VanEck Semiconductor ETF (SMH.US)](https://longbridge.com/zh-HK/quote/SMH.US.md) - [First Trust Nasdaq Food & Semicon (FTXL.US)](https://longbridge.com/zh-HK/quote/FTXL.US.md) ## 相關資訊與研究 - [Micron Readies Client Storage for AI](https://longbridge.com/zh-HK/news/281383944.md) - [AI Needs MemoryâThis New DRAM ETF Is All In On Micron, Samsung And Sandisk](https://longbridge.com/zh-HK/news/281578483.md) - [Micron Technology Prices Tender Offers for Senior Notes](https://longbridge.com/zh-HK/news/281251689.md) - [Jim Cramer Says Micron Technology, Other Memory Rivals Are Sitting On 'Gold Mine' Amid AI Storage Crunch](https://longbridge.com/zh-HK/news/281511637.md) - [The High-Bandwidth Memory (HBM) Bottleneck Can Still Cause Micron's Stock to Soar](https://longbridge.com/zh-HK/news/281662827.md)
