# Elon Musk responds to Starlink's significant price reduction: It has nothing to do with competition with Amazon

A X account posted: "According to The Information, Starlink is significantly reducing prices and providing hardware to distribution partners for free. These measures are being implemented ahead of SpaceX's planned IPO and the launch of Amazon's Kuiper satellite system, with the aim of locking in customers before competition intensifies."

Musk responded: "This has nothing to do with Kuiper; we just want Starlink to serve a broader user base at a more affordable price. The lower the cost, the more it can benefit those in poorer economic conditions, especially in developing countries."
