The data center will be located on a 480-acre site in Pine Island, about 70 miles southeast of Minneapolis, with a population of around 4,000. Google had not previously disclosed its role in the project. The facility will be used for artificial intelligence applications as well as Google's broader cloud business. The proposed Pine Island data center faced community opposition but has received support from the city council and has not yet begun construction. Data centers are increasingly facing political resistance in communities across the country, as they are seen as a contributing factor to rising electricity prices in some areas and raise concerns about their environmental impact. Data centers also require significant amounts of water for cooling. Google declined to disclose the power consumption of the data center. The tech company stated that it would cover all costs associated with the necessary grid infrastructure for the project. The Minnesota Public Utilities Commission still needs to review the agreement between Google and Xcel. "What Google is doing is ensuring that when we arrive, we won't impose additional costs on other taxpayers," said Amanda Peterson Corio, Google's data center energy lead, in an interview with CNBC. "We will pay 100% of our energy and power costs and ensure that new grid capacity is added to meet our needs." Bria Shea, president of Xcel Minnesota, North Dakota, and South Dakota, stated that the Pine Island data center will require additional transmission infrastructure. Even if the data center does not get built for some reason, Google will pay for all new transmission facilities related to it, Corio said. Under the agreement with Xcel, Google will deploy 1,400 megawatts of wind energy, 200 megawatts of solar energy, and 300 megawatts of battery storage to the grid. These renewable projects will be owned by the utility company and are expected to be operational in 2028 and 2029, Shea said. Google will also pay a premium for renewable power under a pricing mechanism designed to protect consumers from infrastructure costs while accelerating the deployment of clean energy in Minnesota. Residents of the town have formed an organization called "Stop the Pine Island Data Center." The Minnesota Center for Environmental Advocacy filed a lawsuit in October challenging the environmental review of the project. According to local television station KTTC, the Pine Island City Council approved two preliminary development plans for the data center in December and approved financial incentives, including $36 million in tax breaks, in February. According to KTTC, city administrator Elizabeth Howard stated that Pine Island will gain over $130 million in tax revenue from the project. Minnesota has not historically been a major data center market, but large tech companies are increasingly focusing on the state. Currently, Minnesota has 74 data centers. According to data from a data center mapping website, Virginia, the largest market, has 570 such facilities ### 相關股票 - [First Trust North American Energy Infra Fd (EMLP.US)](https://longbridge.com/zh-HK/quote/EMLP.US.md) - [Global X Data Center & Dgtl Infrs ETF (DTCR.US)](https://longbridge.com/zh-HK/quote/DTCR.US.md) - [Alphabet (GOOGL.US)](https://longbridge.com/zh-HK/quote/GOOGL.US.md) - [Roundhill GOOGL WeeklyPay ETF (GOOW.US)](https://longbridge.com/zh-HK/quote/GOOW.US.md) - [Direxion Daily Googl Bear 1x Shares (GGLS.US)](https://longbridge.com/zh-HK/quote/GGLS.US.md) - [Direxion Daily GOOGL Bull 2X Shares (GGLL.US)](https://longbridge.com/zh-HK/quote/GGLL.US.md) - [Xcel Energy (XEL.US)](https://longbridge.com/zh-HK/quote/XEL.US.md) - [Pacer Data & Infrastructure Real Estate ETF (SRVR.US)](https://longbridge.com/zh-HK/quote/SRVR.US.md) - [Fisr Trust Nasdaq Clean Edge Smart Grid Infra (GRID.US)](https://longbridge.com/zh-HK/quote/GRID.US.md) - [SPDR S&P Software (XSW.US)](https://longbridge.com/zh-HK/quote/XSW.US.md) - [Proshares Big Data Refiners ETF (DAT.US)](https://longbridge.com/zh-HK/quote/DAT.US.md) - [Alphabet - C (GOOG.US)](https://longbridge.com/zh-HK/quote/GOOG.US.md) - [iShares Semiconductor ETF (SOXX.US)](https://longbridge.com/zh-HK/quote/SOXX.US.md) - [Global X Internet (SNSR.US)](https://longbridge.com/zh-HK/quote/SNSR.US.md) - [First Trust Index NextG ETF (NXTG.US)](https://longbridge.com/zh-HK/quote/NXTG.US.md) - [Franklin Exponential Data ETF (XDAT.US)](https://longbridge.com/zh-HK/quote/XDAT.US.md) - [ISHRS S&P Glb Utilities (JXI.US)](https://longbridge.com/zh-HK/quote/JXI.US.md) - [Select Sect Spdr Util (XLU.US)](https://longbridge.com/zh-HK/quote/XLU.US.md) - [iShares Expanded Tech Software Sector ETF (IGV.US)](https://longbridge.com/zh-HK/quote/IGV.US.md) - [iShares US Digital Infrastructure and Real Estate ETF (IDGT.US)](https://longbridge.com/zh-HK/quote/IDGT.US.md) - [Global X Cloud Computing ETF (CLOU.US)](https://longbridge.com/zh-HK/quote/CLOU.US.md) - [Direxion Semicon Bull 3X (SOXL.US)](https://longbridge.com/zh-HK/quote/SOXL.US.md) - [VanEck Semiconductor ETF (SMH.US)](https://longbridge.com/zh-HK/quote/SMH.US.md) ## 相關資訊與研究 - [Google’s Android Automotive is moving from the dashboard to the ‘brain’ of the car](https://longbridge.com/zh-HK/news/280345973.md) - [Direxion Daily GOOGL Bull 2X Shares (NASDAQ:GGLL) Trading Down 7.8% - Time to Sell?](https://longbridge.com/zh-HK/news/280367180.md) - [PowerBank Advances 3.1 MW Hybrid Solar and BESS project on a Closed Landfill in NY | SUNN Stock News](https://longbridge.com/zh-HK/news/280304389.md) - [Google fends off news publishers' antitrust lawsuit over online search](https://longbridge.com/zh-HK/news/280214661.md) - [Judge rejects lawyers' preemptive fee bid in Google ad tech class action](https://longbridge.com/zh-HK/news/279973438.md)
