The South Korean Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport stated in a release that the approval was granted "under strict security requirements." The statement mentioned that the relevant conditions include the obfuscation of military facilities and other sensitive security-related installations, while restricting the display of latitude and longitude coordinates of South Korean territory on products like Google Maps and Google Earth. Additionally, Google must process map data on local servers and is only allowed to export data related to navigation and direction services that have been pre-approved by the government. The ministry also added that the South Korean government reserves the right to require Google to revise maps, and Google must establish a framework for preventing security incidents to address potential emergencies. Looking back at this long struggle, the "tug-of-war" between Google and the South Korean government can be traced back to 2007. It is understood that South Korea is one of the few countries where Google Maps cannot operate normally, allowing local companies like Naver and Kakao to dominate digital map services. For a long time, the South Korean authorities have consistently refused to store high-precision geographic data on overseas servers, citing the Mapping Act and national security concerns, fearing that such detailed information could jeopardize defense deployments and military secrets against North Korea. Although Google launched a large-scale public relations campaign and submitted a formal application again in 2016, it was still firmly rejected by the South Korean government for refusing to establish a data center in Korea and for refusing to obscure sensitive facilities in satellite maps. However, after entering 2026, both parties reached a critical technical compromise through multiple rounds of closed-door negotiations. It is widely believed that the driving force behind this policy shift, in addition to technical concessions, also stems from increasing trade diplomatic pressure. It is worth mentioning that the Office of the United States Trade Representative has previously publicly accused South Korea's map data restriction policies of constituting a disguised non-tariff trade barrier ### 相關股票 - [Alphabet - C (GOOG.US)](https://longbridge.com/zh-HK/quote/GOOG.US.md) - [Roundhill GOOGL WeeklyPay ETF (GOOW.US)](https://longbridge.com/zh-HK/quote/GOOW.US.md) - [Direxion Daily GOOGL Bull 2X Shares (GGLL.US)](https://longbridge.com/zh-HK/quote/GGLL.US.md) - [Alphabet (GOOGL.US)](https://longbridge.com/zh-HK/quote/GOOGL.US.md) ## 相關資訊與研究 - [Judge rejects lawyers' preemptive fee bid in Google ad tech class action](https://longbridge.com/zh-HK/news/279973438.md) - [Google Mulls Purchase of Cooling Equipment from Envicool, Other Firms, Sources Say](https://longbridge.com/zh-HK/news/279431587.md) - [Google introduces a new way for users to sideload Android apps that still protects against scams](https://longbridge.com/zh-HK/news/279827517.md) - [Alphabet Sells Partial Stake In Fibre Business As A.I.
