# Shanghai Tower protects F1 "Speed and Passion" with "Full Signal"

In March, Shanghai is full of spring vibes, further ignited by the roar of engines. From March 13 to March 15, the 2026 season of the Formula One World Championship, with new rules and new teams, returned to the Shanghai International Circuit (hereinafter referred to as the Shanghai Circuit). Over the three days of the event, more than 230,000 people attended, setting a new high in nearly 20 years.

Behind the bustling crowd is the real-time sharing of massive amounts of images and videos online, posing a severe test for communication. China Tower Corporation Limited Shanghai Branch (hereinafter referred to as Shanghai Tower) attaches great importance to this, and under the guidance of the superior authorities, collaborates with various basic telecommunications companies to actively respond, prepare thoroughly, and ensure the stability and safety of communication services during the event.

During the three days of the event, a total of **45 personnel, 21 vehicles, and 4 oil machines** were deployed to ensure the safe and stable operation of the Shanghai Circuit and surrounding sites, achieving high standards in communication, network information security, and service guarantee for the event.

**Tackling the "hard nut":** **Injecting full signal into the reopened E grandstand**

"This year's attendance has reached a new high, especially for the E grandstand, which welcomed over 5,000 spectators upon its first full opening after the restart." Standing in front of the newly renovated E grandstand, Shen Hong, regional manager of the Shanghai Tower Jiading District Branch, introduced. To meet the growing demand for spectators, the temporary grandstand in Area E of the Shanghai International Circuit was reopened to the public after being converted into a permanent grandstand.

However, the unique architectural structure of the E grandstand posed a challenge for communication signal coverage. "Due to the E grandstand's proximity to the large platform where crowds gather, it presented significant challenges for base station site selection. For safety reasons, the conventional average site layout method was not feasible here," Shen recalled. In the face of this challenge, Shanghai Tower acted swiftly, actively playing a coordinating role, and conducted multiple on-site surveys and plan discussions with the event organizers and operators. After two months of overcoming difficulties, two new outdoor macro base stations were built around the E grandstand, and an indoor distribution system was deployed in the grandstand to meet the coverage needs of different operators, accurately "injecting" signals into every corner.

"Since the establishment of the tower company, we only had 16 base stations around the Shanghai Circuit, but after years of construction, we have increased to 38, an increase of 137.5%." Shen pointed to the distant tower and said, "Ensuring every year's F1 and safeguarding this 'speed and passion' is our responsibility."

**Building a "safety dam":** **Multiple measures to ensure everything is foolproof**

To ensure the stable operation of equipment and facilities during the event, Shanghai Tower planned and deployed in advance, completing a comprehensive inspection and rectification of potential hazards at the surrounding 38 base stations. At the same time, contingency plans were developed, and materials and spare parts needed for emergency repairs were checked to ensure normal use and meet emergency repair needs In addition, to meet the power load demand for communication equipment, emergency vehicles, and command vehicles during the event, Shanghai Tower will carry out power diversion modifications for base stations and complete the expansion in advance.

During the three days of the event, Shanghai Tower's support system operated efficiently. Shanghai Tower strengthened 24/7 duty monitoring and dispatched on-site support teams, ready to respond at any time and report communication support information on time. At the same time, relying on the "Integrated Operation and Maintenance Rectification Platform," it monitored the power and battery performance data of each base station in real-time, promptly handling alarms and building a solid "safety dam" for event communication.

**Creating a "New Paradigm":** **Digital Intelligence Empowerment, Slow Live Broadcast** **"Cloud" Sharing**

With over 230,000 attendees, the large crowd not only tested communication but also put immense pressure on on-site security and traffic management. Shanghai Tower fully leveraged the "one tower, multiple uses" efficiency, deeply integrating high-definition video equipment distributed around the venue with AI algorithms to build a smart support system.

"This system can automatically identify changes in crowd density in the area. Once it reaches a preset threshold, it can issue an early warning immediately, helping us and relevant management departments shift from passive response to proactive prevention," said Chen Yusheng, manager of the marketing operations department of Shanghai Tower's Jiading District branch. He stated, "This data is also connected to the subway dispatch center, helping them predict the peak flow of people when the event ends, providing precise decision-making support for subway operators to adjust train schedules and manage passenger flow in a timely manner, greatly enhancing the efficiency of urban comprehensive operations."

In addition to serving the on-site audience, Shanghai Tower is also committed to allowing more fans who cannot attend the event in person to experience the charm of F1. In collaboration with mainstream media such as The Paper and the Jiading District Media Center, it utilized high tower resources to launch a slow live broadcast service for the F1 event. Multiple high-definition cameras continuously showcased the venue environment, sunrise, and sunset for 24 hours, providing online viewers with a unique perspective of the race.

"During the three days of the event, the total viewership of the slow live broadcast on major platforms like The Paper exceeded 3.9 million, attracting a large number of netizens to enjoy this feast of speed and passion in the cloud, and it has become a successful attempt for us to use our resources to serve the public and promote event culture," said Jiang Xiaozhang from the industry development department of Shanghai Tower.
