# The U.S. auto safety regulator ends the defect petition for over 2 million Tesla vehicles

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced on Friday that it has closed a defect petition involving approximately 2.26 million Tesla vehicles after finding no evidence of safety-related defects.

A petition from March 2023 claimed that due to different control methods such as single-pedal driving, Tesla vehicles might increase the risk of pedal misapplication, potentially leading to unintended acceleration.

The NHTSA stated that it found no evidence of defects or safety risks and cited a very small number of related incidents and data, which showed that the vehicle's responses were as expected.

Tesla did not immediately respond to a request for comment
