# Amazon increases investment in automation for last-mile delivery strategy, quietly laying out the future of robot delivery

Amazon seems to be quietly taking new steps in the logistics field by acquiring the robotics startup RIVR, further advancing the automation of last-mile delivery.

The specific price of the deal was not disclosed, but its strategic intent is clear. The wheeled-legged robots produced by RIVR are designed to handle the tricky "last hundred yards" of delivery, which involves getting packages from delivery vehicles to customers' doorsteps. The company combines artificial intelligence with unique robotic designs to tackle various real-world environments and has previously collaborated with companies such as Swiss Post and Just Eat Takeaway. In the long run, RIVR planned to deploy over 1 million robots, creating a data feedback loop to continuously enhance performance.
