One factory will provide computing power support for cars and humanoid robots, while the other will supply chips for artificial intelligence (AI) data centers deployed in space. Prior to this statement, Musk announced the plan to build an advanced AI chip complex called "Terafab" in Austin the day before. Musk posted on social media: "Technically, Terafab will consist of two fabs, each producing only one chip design." Musk previously announced that he is constructing one of the largest chip manufacturing plants in history, TeraFab. This super factory, named "TeraFab," aims to achieve an annual computing power capacity of over 1 petawatt (1000 gigawatts), covering logic, storage, and advanced packaging, and is jointly initiated by SpaceX, Tesla, and xAI. It is reported that TeraFab is planned to have an annual production capacity of 100 billion to 200 billion AI and storage chips, equivalent to about 100,000 wafers per month, with a total investment expected to reach $20 billion. The first mass-produced chip will be AI5, scheduled for production in 2027, for full self-driving (FSD), humanoid robot Optimus, Cybercab autonomous taxis, and data centers. Musk further revealed on social media that about 80% of the factory's capacity will be used for space applications, while the remaining 20% will be for ground applications. This is "one of the largest semiconductor manufacturing businesses ever planned by a private company," which will "make Tesla one of the largest semiconductor manufacturers in the world" and eliminate Tesla's reliance on TSMC, Samsung, or any external suppliers, controlling every layer of the AI stack from chips to software. This is also one of Tesla's largest capital investments, funded by Tesla's $44 billion cash reserves and supported by Musk's long-term AI vision. Musk stated: "We are very grateful for the existing supply chain, thanks to companies like Samsung and TSMC, and we hope they can scale up as soon as possible; we will buy all their chips. I have already told them this, but the speed at which they can expand is limited, and that speed is far below our expectations, so we need to build Terafab." It is worth mentioning that Musk first mentioned the idea of establishing a chip factory at Tesla's annual shareholder meeting in November 2025. He stated that to support the continuous iteration of Tesla's full self-driving (FSD) software and the large-scale deployment of the Optimus robot, Tesla's demand for chips will reach 100 billion to 200 billion chips per year. Even if global wafer foundries expand production according to the most optimistic forecasts, their capacity will not meet Tesla's explosive demand for AI chips in the future, making the construction of a large fab "imperative." Musk pointed out during a demonstration at a facility in Austin last Saturday: "Either we build Terafab, or we have no chips available." However, the construction of the Terafab project requires a huge financial threshold. Industry insiders indicate that building a semiconductor fab using advanced 2-nanometer process technology typically requires an investment of $25 billion to $40 billion, with a construction period of 3 to 5 years. This poses significant pressure on Tesla's current financial situation. Data shows that Tesla's total revenue for 2025 is expected to decline by 3% year-on-year to $94.8 billion, while net profit is projected to plummet by 46% to $3.79 billion. Although it holds over $44 billion in cash and investments, its capital expenditure budget for 2026 has already exceeded $20 billion, which does not fully cover the substantial expenses of the Terafab project. Market analysts believe that Tesla will likely need to rely on equity financing to support this project. Gartner analysts state that the joint chip manufacturing efforts of Tesla, SpaceX, and xAI will drive the efficient allocation of computing resources across different scenarios, providing a new paradigm for the integration of AI and the aerospace industry. Despite facing numerous challenges, the project's implementation will significantly enhance the resilience and diversity of the global semiconductor industry ### 相關股票 - [Tesla (TSLA.US)](https://longbridge.com/zh-HK/quote/TSLA.US.md) - [GraniteShares 1.25 Long TSLA Daily ETF (TSL.US)](https://longbridge.com/zh-HK/quote/TSL.US.md) - [Gaxos.ai (GXAI.US)](https://longbridge.com/zh-HK/quote/GXAI.US.md) - [C3.AI (AI.US)](https://longbridge.com/zh-HK/quote/AI.US.md) - [YieldMax AI Option Income Strategy ETF (AIYY.US)](https://longbridge.com/zh-HK/quote/AIYY.US.md) - [Direxion Semicon Bull 3X (SOXL.US)](https://longbridge.com/zh-HK/quote/SOXL.US.md) - [Simplify Volt TSLA Revolution ETF (TESL.US)](https://longbridge.com/zh-HK/quote/TESL.US.md) - [VanEck Semiconductor ETF (SMH.US)](https://longbridge.com/zh-HK/quote/SMH.US.md) - [T-Rex 2X Inverse Tesla Daily Target ETF (TSLZ.US)](https://longbridge.com/zh-HK/quote/TSLZ.US.md) - [Direxion Daily TSLA Bull 2X Shares (TSLL.US)](https://longbridge.com/zh-HK/quote/TSLL.US.md) - [iShares Semiconductor ETF (SOXX.US)](https://longbridge.com/zh-HK/quote/SOXX.US.md) - [Leverage Shares 2X Long TSLA Daily ETF (TSLG.US)](https://longbridge.com/zh-HK/quote/TSLG.US.md) - [SPDR S&P Semicon (XSD.US)](https://longbridge.com/zh-HK/quote/XSD.US.md) - [GraniteShares 2x Long TSLA Daily ETF (TSLR.US)](https://longbridge.com/zh-HK/quote/TSLR.US.md) ## 相關資訊與研究 - [Musk found liable to Twitter shareholders in fraud lawsuit over $44 billion takeover, Bloomberg says](https://longbridge.com/zh-HK/news/279998260.md) - [Einride secures regulatory approval in Texas](https://longbridge.com/zh-HK/news/280314062.md) - [French prosecutors suspect Musk encouraged deepfakes row to inflate X value](https://longbridge.com/zh-HK/news/280023375.md) - [Musk Speeds Up Tesla's Next-Gen AI Chip](https://longbridge.com/zh-HK/news/279798114.md) - [Musk Unveils Terafab, Targets $50B SpaceX IPO to Fund AI Push](https://longbridge.com/zh-HK/news/280200427.md)
