In response to the Iranian conflict that has caused fossil fuel prices to soar, the UK Department for Energy Security and Net Zero has committed to simplifying the process for consumers to install solar panels. Plug-and-play panels have been widely sold in other parts of Europe and can be installed in gardens, on walls, or on balconies. On Tuesday, the UK Department for Energy Security and Net Zero stated that these panels will be available in the UK "within months" and that it is working with Lidl, Amazon, and solar panel manufacturer EcoFlow. The UK energy price cap is expected to rise significantly by 20% in July, to nearly £2,000 (approximately $2,676), putting immense pressure on Prime Minister Keir Starmer to mitigate the impact on consumers before the price increase takes effect.
