# Concerns over commodity supply have not eased, and Brent crude closed at $112

Chinese cargo ships are reported to be banned from passing through the Strait of Hormuz, causing oil prices to rise to their highest level since Russia's invasion of Ukraine in July 2022.

New York May crude oil prices rose 5.5% to $99.64.

Brent May crude oil prices rose 4.2% to $112.6
