# Microsoft announces an investment of 7 billion yuan in Singapore for AI development | Lianhe Zaobao

Microsoft plans to invest $5.5 billion (approximately SGD 7 billion) in Singapore over the five years from 2025 to 2029 for the construction of cloud computing and artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure and related operations.

Brad Smith, Vice Chairman and President of Microsoft, announced this news on Wednesday (April 1) during the ATxInspire event organized by the Infocomm Media Development Authority in Singapore.

Smith stated that Microsoft's continued investment in cloud computing and AI infrastructure reflects its long-term confidence in Singapore as a global digital leader.

He said, "We are working together to help individuals and organizations better leverage artificial intelligence by enhancing skills, strengthening cybersecurity and resilience, and advancing trustworthy governance, so that technology truly brings tangible benefits to the people of Singapore."

He also announced that the company will expand the Microsoft Elevate program to provide AI tools and skills training for university students, teachers, and non-profit organizations, enhancing the development capabilities of various sectors in the AI era through responsible AI applications Specifically, all students from universities and vocational training schools in Singapore will be able to use Microsoft 365 Premium and productivity tools equipped with AI assistants (Copilot) for free within December, benefiting over 200,000 students. All teachers will have access to free AI training through Microsoft Elevate for Educators. At the same time, Microsoft Elevate for Changemakers will help leaders of non-profit organizations enhance their skills.

Smith stated that these programs will collectively strengthen the education, workforce development, and social impact systems, enabling more people to learn, work, and grow in the AI economy.

This also aligns with Singapore's rapid adoption of AI trends. According to the latest "AI Adoption Report" from the Microsoft Research Institute's AI Economic Research Institute, Singapore ranks second globally in AI adoption, only behind the United Arab Emirates
