Image credit: @小迪快报) The head of BYD's Fang Cheng Bao sub-brand mentioned its sedan series for the first time, as the marque moves toward a more comprehensive product lineup beyond its existing SUV (sport utility vehicle) models. Fang Cheng Bao's sedan series is advancing steadily, the brand's general manager Xiong Tianbo said Wednesday on Weibo. The brand will invite industry insiders to view the new car and exchange ideas this month to further refine the product and mature the new vehicle's overall strategy, she said. The brand sold 25,926 vehicles in March, surging 222% year-on-year and jumping 52.2% from the previous month, indicating a return to a faster growth track following the post-Chinese New Year adjustment period. Xiong didn't disclose further details about Fang Cheng Bao's sedan series. The first sedan is expected to be equipped with BYD's second-generation Blade Battery and flash charging technology, released last month, to achieve a charging experience comparable to gas refueling. In February, a semi-official BYD account released teaser images of Fang Cheng Bao's first sedan, saying 2026 would welcome the brand's "most beautiful sedan." It is widely expected to be part of the all-new "Mei" (Magnesium) series, and Fang Cheng Bao's first sedan may be named the "Mei 7." The car may feature a three-motor system with peak power approaching 1,000 horsepower, and be equipped with the DiSus-M intelligent magneto-rheological body control system, some local media reported at the time. Since the brand's launch in August 2023, Fang Cheng Bao has rolled out the Bao 5, Bao 8, and the Tai series SUVs. The sedan series will become one of the most important new product lines since the brand's inception, and potentially a key step in its transition from a niche player to a mass-market brand. Xiong linked Fang Cheng Bao's March sales performance to BYD Group's technology releases. She noted that market enthusiasm was reignited after BYD unveiled its second-generation Blade Battery and flash charging technology in early March.
