The lawsuits, filed by entities affiliated with Hollywood Park/SoFi Stadium owned by billionaire Stan Kroenke, and The Forum/Intuit Dome owned by billionaire Steve Ballmer, filed lawsuits to invalidate the City’s agreement with WOW to construct and operate 60 advertising and public safety kiosks across Inglewood. Plaintiffs alleged that they – rather than the City – possessed rights to such advertising and that the City/WOW agreement violated multiple provisions of state and local law.
Inglewood is the sports and entertainment capital of the country, attracting more than five million visitors annually for NFL and NBA games, concerts, the Super Bowl, All-Star games, the FIFA World Cup, and the upcoming 2028 Olympics. SoFi Stadium is home to two NFL teams – the L.A. Rams and Chargers – while Intuit Dome is the home of the NBA’s LA Clippers. SoFi Stadium has hosted concerts by Taylor Swift, Beyoncé, Shakira and many others, while The Forum has hosted the Eagles, Bruce Springsteen, Billie Eilish, Lady Gaga and many more. The 2026 FIFA World Cup is set to kick off in June, with matches at SoFi Stadium, followed by Super Bowl LXI in 2027 and the Olympics in 2028.
The litigation centered on advertising rights worth hundreds of millions of dollars in the nation’s premier sports and entertainment destination. With this decision, the court upheld the City of Inglewood’s right to realize very substantial public benefits – public safety enhancements and millions for public services to better serve the residents of Inglewood – generated by its agreement with WOW. The Inglewood Police Department and other municipal services will benefit tremendously, as will visitors to Inglewood. The information network in the WOW kiosks will not only direct traffic, it also will provide information on local emergencies, public safety, Amber alerts, and other valuable public information.
Per Inglewood Mayor James Butts, “This revenue source finances, among other things, pre-kindergarten classes, our Blue Zone for seniors, park infrastructure renewal, public safety services, and the resurfacing of streets traveled by 5+ million visitors per year attending over 400 events annually in Inglewood.
