<h3>CHINA’S BYD SET TO SNATCH EV SALES CROWN FROM TESLA</h3>
<p>After usurping Tesla  (TSLA.O)  as the top-selling EV maker in the last three months of 2023, China’s BYD  (002594.SZ)  could take the annual crown this year, according to Trendforce.</p>
<p>The company, backed by billionaire Warren Buffet, ended last year with a market share of 17.1%, compared with Tesla’s 19.9%.</p>
<p>Stable sales in China and a growing presence across the world including in markets such as Europe is expected to help BYD, according to the industry analysis firm.</p>
<p>“Growth is slowing down due to a high base effect, and limited sales growth in other regions cannot compensate for the gap left by the Chinese market,” according to Trendforce.</p>
<p>Tesla CEO Musk in January warned of “notably lower” deliveries growth this year as the company focuses on its next generation platform for cheaper vehicles.</p>
<p>The company, which took to slashing prices early last year to spur demand, had warned that still-high interest rates made its cars less affordable due to increased monthly payments.</p>
<p>The industry analysis firm projected sales of 16.87 million new energy vehicles in 2024, growing by about 30% from a year earlier.</p>
<p>After rising almost 102% in 2023, Tesla’s shares have fallen by about 20% so far this year following the company’s forecast for lower sales growth this year, while BYD’s shares have dropped about 10% so far in 2024 after falling just under 23% in 2023.</p>
