On Monday, June 10th, Apple's annual WWDC Worldwide Developers Conference proceeded as scheduled, integrating AI capabilities into mainstream hardware devices such as the iPhone, Mac, and iPad operating systems, especially enabling users to interact with ChatGPT through the Siri intelligent assistant.
Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla, who has had numerous conflicts with OpenAI, the parent company behind ChatGPT, expressed his dissatisfaction. He frequently posted warnings on his social media platform X (formerly Twitter), cautioning Apple against integrating ChatGPT into its operating system:
&#34;If Apple integrates OpenAI at the operating system level, all Apple devices will be banned from use in all my companies. This is an unacceptable security violation.
Visitors to my companies will have to check their Apple devices at the door, which will be stored in Faraday cages. (Note: A Faraday cage is a metal enclosure that prevents electromagnetic fields from entering or escaping.)
Apple is not smart enough to create its own artificial intelligence, yet claims to ensure that OpenAI protects user safety and privacy, which is clearly absurd! Once Apple hands over your data to OpenAI, you have no idea what will happen. They are selling you out.&#34;
Musk shared an image featuring an Indian couple gazing affectionately at each other, with the woman labeled as &#34;Apple&#34; and the man labeled as &#34;OpenAI,&#34; both sharing the juice from a coconut labeled as &#34;iPhone,&#34; symbolizing &#34;user data.&#34; The image is titled &#34;How Apple Intelligence Works.&#34;
Musk stated that the issue with agreeing to share data is that no one truly reads these user terms and conditions, so users may be betrayed without even knowing it.
He also retweeted a post from a netizen stating that Hollywood actress Scarlett Johansson had informed OpenAI not to use her voice, but they still highly imitated and used it. &#34;Now imagine, even if you don't allow them to use it, what can they do with your phone data.&#34; Musk replied, &#34;Exactly!&#34; He also referred to OpenAI as chilling spyware
Elon Musk's &#34;group of companies&#34; mentioned should include Tesla, space transportation company SpaceX, potential competitor xAI from OpenAI, brain-machine interface startup Neuralink, and tunneling startup Boring Company. As of December 31st last year, Tesla, the largest company under Musk's umbrella and an electric vehicle giant, had over 140,000 employees worldwide.
In March this year, Musk sued OpenAI and its CEO, Ultron, among others, accusing them of abandoning the founding mission of &#34;developing artificial intelligence for the benefit of humanity&#34; and intending to change this NGO into a for-profit entity. Musk co-founded OpenAI in 2015 but resigned from the board in 2018, subsequently criticizing OpenAI for developing AI irresponsibly.
xAI, a direct competitor of OpenAI under Musk's umbrella, raised $6 billion in its latest Series B funding round, bringing the company's valuation to around $24 billion. xAI's product is a generative chatbot called Grok. In February this year, OpenAI's valuation had soared to $80 billion, making it the third most valuable tech startup globally, behind only ByteDance and SpaceX
