Elon Musk announced on social media platform X on Wednesday that Dell Technologies and Super Micro Computer Inc. (SMCI) will provide the server racks needed for his artificial intelligence startup xAI's supercomputer.
On June 19, Dell Technologies CEO Michael Dell posted on social media X, stating that they are collaborating with NVIDIA to build the Dell AI Factory to support Musk's xAI company's large model Grok.

In response, Musk clarified that Dell is assembling half of the racks for the supercomputer being built by xAI.

When asked by netizens who would be assembling the other half of the racks - IBM, HP, Cray, or SGI, Musk replied &#34;SMC.&#34; It is reported that Super Micro Computer Inc. (SMCI, also known as SMC as mentioned by Musk) is well-known for its close ties with chip companies like NVIDIA and its liquid cooling technology. The company has also confirmed its partnership with xAI to the media.

Last year, Musk founded xAI. According to media reports, Musk told investors that his AI startup xAI plans to build a supercomputer to power the updated version of its AI chatbot Grok. He aims to have this supercomputer operational by the fall of 2025.
However, training AI models like Grok requires tens of thousands of power-hungry chips, which are currently in short supply. Earlier this year, Musk stated that training the Grok 2 model would require about 20,000 NVIDIA H100 graphics processing units (GPUs), while Grok 3 and future versions would need 100,000 NVIDIA H100 chips
