Tesla Cybertruck faces ongoing challenges with two recalls in the United States

According to the financial news app Zhitong Finance, Tesla's (TSLA.US) Cybertruck has initiated two recalls in the United States, posing new challenges for the car manufacturer six months after delivery. The latest recalls - the third and fourth recalls for the Cybertruck - involve issues that require physical repairs, typically requiring an appointment at a Tesla service center. One issue involves the trim that may loosen and detach, while another issue involves the faulty motor controller for the front windshield wiper. A recall report dated June 19 on the website of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) stated that if the trim detaches from the vehicle during driving, it could pose a road hazard to following drivers, increasing the risk of injury or collision. Tesla plans to "replace or reprocess" the trim to ensure "sufficient adhesion". According to a second safety recall report on the NHTSA website, on some vehicles, "the front windshield wiper motor controller may stop working due to electrical overstress of the gate drive component." The report stated, "Inoperative wipers may reduce visibility under certain operating conditions, increasing the risk of a crash." Tesla plans to replace the motor controller for the front windshield wiper on the Cybertruck for affected customers. Four years after CEO Elon Musk first unveiled the Cybertruck and two years after the original production start date, the vehicle finally entered the market in limited deliveries at a November event in Austin. Musk described the vehicle as "a better truck than a truck, and a better sports car than a sports car." A previous recall for the Cybertruck was to address an accelerator pedal issue. The accelerator pedal could loosen and get stuck in the vehicle's interior trim, leading to "unintended acceleration". The company had stated that the annual production capacity of the Cybertruck exceeds 125,000 units. At Tesla's annual shareholder meeting earlier this month, Musk announced a delivery record of 1,300 Cybertrucks within a week. In addition to the issues with the Cybertruck, Tesla has faced a challenging first half of the year overall. The stock price has fallen by 25% since the beginning of the year, sales have declined due to model aging, increased competition in China, and a deteriorating brand image. The company is undergoing a major restructuring, including a workforce reduction of at least 14%. Tesla is expected to announce second-quarter vehicle production and delivery data in early July.
