Tesla Model 3 sees longer wait times in China as domestic sales increase

It appears that consumers in China’s domestic auto market are starting to favor the reengineered Tesla Model 3. This was hinted at in the estimated sales of the vehicle so far this Q3 2024, as well as the increasing wait times for the all-electric sedan on Tesla China’s official website. Tesla China is seeing some momentum this third quarter, with the electric vehicle maker seeing 16,200 new vehicle registrations in the week ending September 8, 2024. From this number, estimates suggest that the reengineered Tesla Model 3 accounted for about 6,400 units. As can be seen on the vehicle’s order page on Tesla China’s official website, the estimated wait time for new Model 3 orders has been adjusted to 4-6 weeks. This is true for the base Model 3 Rear Wheel Drive (RWD), Model 3 Long Range All Wheel Drive (AWD), and the top-tier Model 3 Performance. Prior to the update, the estimated delivery date for new Model 3 orders was listed at 3-5 weeks for all three variants of the all-electric sedan. This adjusted wait time for the vehicle was posted in mid-July 2024.
