On Wednesday, September 18th, the Federal Reserve announced after the FOMC meeting that the target range for the federal funds rate was lowered from 5.25%-5.50% to 4.75%-5.0%, a 50 basis point cut. This is the first rate cut since the Fed began its tightening cycle in March 2022. From March 2022 to July last year, the Fed raised rates 11 times in over a year, totaling 525 basis points.
