Tesla prepared to deploy Megapack-powered mobile Superchargers after Hurricane Milton

Tesla has shared a number of reminders to its customers in preparation for the arrival of Hurricane Milton. The electric vehicle maker also shared some details about its charging strategy after the hurricane had passed. As per a report from NBC News , Hurricane Milton continued to intensify as it approached the Tampa Bay, Florida area. With the east coast of the United States still reeling from the aftermath of Hurricane Helene, tensions are high as Hurricane Milton grew into a Category 4 storm with wind speeds of up to 155 mph. To help customers prepare for the arrival of the potentially catastrophic weather event, Tesla shared a number of critical reminders through its official Tesla Charging account on X. As per Tesla, customers are advised to prepare for the hurricane’s arrival by charging their vehicles to 100% if they are able and using the live status of Superchargers in their area in their car’s infotainment system or the Tesla App. Charging preparations ahead of Hurricane Milton:→ If charging at home, charge to 100%.→ Live status and availability of Superchargers are in the vehicle's touchscreen or the Tesla App. → Access types for other EVs are on the Find Us map. https://t.co/KieRhYZAeG→…— Tesla Charging (@TeslaCharging) October 7, 2024 Tesla also noted that as part of the company’s pre-hurricane preparations, the company is focused on maintaining the uptime of its Supercharger stations. After Hurricane Milton, Tesla would be focused on restoring its charging infrastructure. As part of these efforts, Tesla is prepared to deploy mobile Superchargers powered by Megapack batteries in areas that are most affected by the Category 4 storm. Tesla’s Megapack-powered mobile Superchargers were initially spotted by electric vehicle community members in November 2019. At the time, EV owners were pleasantly surprised to see a trailer loaded with a Megapack battery and eight Urban Supercharger stalls in San Luis Obispo (SLO) at the Madonna Inn Supercharger. The mobile Supercharger was deployed to help customers who were traveling for the holidays, such as Thanksgiving. Tesla owners who charged their vehicles at the mobile Supercharger reported that the setup was able to provide peak rates of up to 125 kW. It remains to be seen if Tesla has improved the output of its Megapack-powered mobile Superchargers since then, but even 125 kW of charging during times of emergency could prove life-saving.
