Tesla obtains new patent, is the authorization for FSD just around the corner?

According to Zhitong Finance APP, Tesla (TSLA.US) obtained a patent on Tuesday that creates a system and method for adapting neural network models on a hardware platform. The patent application dates back to March 16, 2023. Independent patent researcher SETI Park speculated on social media platform X that Tesla's patent may be related to implementing FSD on other brands. Currently, the company has not released any specific information regarding FSD authorization. The patent application states that the method includes obtaining information about the neural network model, covering decision points related to the neural network, where one or more first decision points are associated with the layout of the neural network. It is also noted that machine learning applications often require the implementation and/or configuration of neural networks on previously unachieved platforms. "For example, autonomous vehicles may limit their AI systems to use relatively limited hardware to implement neural networks, which may lead to constraints on the hardware platform in terms of implementation and performance. There is also an increasing demand for machine learning and deep learning on mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets. To achieve deep learning and other high-volume, computationally intensive technologies, the neural network models used must be adjusted to generate configurations that meet all constraints of the platform." It is understood that as early as last year, Tesla CEO Elon Musk mentioned during an earnings call that the company was internally researching the possibility of licensing its Full Self-Driving (FSD) technology to another major automaker. Musk stated, "Just like the North American Charging Standard (NACS), we are open to licensing our FSD hardware and software to other car companies, and we have had early discussions with a major OEM about using Tesla FSD."
