This year, the best-performing stock in the S&amp;P 500 Index—defense technology stock Palantir—announced its &#34;transition&#34; to the Nasdaq Index.
Recently, Palantir announced that it will move its listing from the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) to the Nasdaq on November 26, and its common stock will continue to trade under the ticker symbol &#34;PLTR.&#34;
Once the &#34;battlefield&#34; is changed, Palantir expects to qualify for inclusion in the Nasdaq-100 Index, a move that may enhance the company's visibility and attract new investors.
Sherwood analysis pointed out that this year, the company's management began to realize the benefits of being included in the Nasdaq-100 Index. This is crucial, once included in the index, many &#34;passive&#34; investment products, including ETFs, mutual funds, etc., will buy this stock based on the index benchmark, regardless of their views on the company's prospects or governance. More importantly, they cannot sell this stock unless it is delisted or removed from the index.
The Nasdaq-100 Index is the basis for several large ETFs, and Palantir is expected to be included in one of the largest ETFs in the world—the Invesco QQQ Trust (referred to as: QQQ), which has assets under management exceeding $300 billion.
Palantir was only included in the S&amp;P 500 Index in September this year and is the best-performing component stock in that index this year, even surpassing NVIDIA and Vistra Corp.
Last Friday, Palantir closed up 11% to $65.77, setting a new all-time closing high, with a cumulative increase of over 290% this year.
