AMD has started supplying chips for Dell's commercial PCs.
On January 6th local time, according to Bloomberg, American chip manufacturing giant AMD unveiled its next-generation processors at the CES exhibition in Las Vegas. AMD executives stated that these processors will make personal computers based on AMD chips the best choice for running artificial intelligence software. More importantly, Dell has decided to adopt these chips in some of its computers aimed at enterprise customers.
Analysts indicated that this marks a significant breakthrough for AMD in the commercial PC market and reflects the entire PC industry moving towards a new era empowered by AI. However, it is another blow for Intel, which is struggling to maintain its dominance in the PC chip market.
For a long time, AMD's products have been positioned as low-cost, low-performance options; however, this situation has changed. In contrast, Intel still holds about 70% of the market share and higher revenue, but its sales have been declining, and profits have been eroded due to the costs of investing in new technologies.
According to AMD, the newly launched Ryzen AI Max series processors will provide the highest level of performance in thin and light high-end laptops—these chips will run AI workloads 90% faster than previous generations. Additionally, AMD has introduced a new 9000 series of desktop processors, with the 9900X3D chip featuring 16 processor cores and a maximum operating speed of up to 5.7 gigahertz.
However, besides AMD, Intel and potential competitor Qualcomm also unveiled new laptop and desktop chips at this CES exhibition, all claiming that their technologies can provide the best performance for AI workloads
