TSMC Chairman Wei Zhejia recently stated publicly that they are not like American semiconductor companies, as the most advanced processes will not be moved to the United States.
Wei Zhejia mentioned that because the R&amp;D center is in Taiwan, the most advanced processes will only be replicated for mass production in various locations after they are successfully developed; regarding future factory layouts in the United States, he reiterated that they will still depend on customer demand, but there must also be strong government support.
Semiconductor industry insiders revealed that the main personnel sent to the United States are production line engineers, whose task is to maintain stable mass production, while R&amp;D engineers are responsible for advancing process nodes, such as moving from 2nm to A16 and A14, and they will not be stationed in the United States, as these engineers are the technical core of TSMC.
In addition, regarding the U.S. upgrade of AI chip export controls, Wei Zhejia frankly stated that TSMC initially sees the impact of related policies as still controllable, and in terms of actual end-use applications, the actual AI exports from mainland China are not significant.
TSMC's latest financial report shows that the company's revenue for the fourth quarter of 2024 is NT$868.46 billion, a quarter-on-quarter increase of 14.3% and a year-on-year increase of 38.8%. The net profit after tax is approximately NT$374.68 billion, a quarter-on-quarter increase of 15.2% and a year-on-year increase of 57%. In U.S. dollar terms, the revenue for the fourth quarter of 2024 is $26.88 billion, a year-on-year increase of 37.0% and a quarter-on-quarter increase of 14.4%
