UBTECH Robotics and the Innovation Center conducted research on thousands of universities, research institutions, and application scenario development organizations across the country, finding that full-size (over 1.6 meters) humanoid robots are more aligned with research needs and can accommodate broader research topics. However, most humanoid robots currently available on the market are medium-sized (1.1 meters to 1.3 meters), with limited development potential. Full-size humanoid robots for research and education face obstacles such as high prices, low open-source availability, and limited scenario data. Additionally, research-grade humanoid robots require excellent performance in experimental accuracy, efficiency, and stability, with relatively high demands on product performance and parameters.

In 2023, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology released the &#34;Guiding Opinions on the Innovative Development of Humanoid Robots,&#34; positioning humanoid robots as a new high ground for technological competition, a new track for future industries, and a new engine for economic development. UBTECH, as the initiating and general management unit, jointly funded and established the Beijing Humanoid Robot Innovation Center with ten leading industry enterprises and institutions, including Beijing Electromechanical, Xiaomi Robotics, and Yizhuang Robotics, by the end of 2023. UBTECH's CTO and Executive Director, Xiong Youjun, serves as the legal representative and general manager of the innovation center.
