Lei Jun talks about Xiaomi SoC big chip: That's not "black history," that's the road we've traveled
Xiaomi founder, chairman, and CEO Lei Jun published a lengthy article on Weibo reviewing the history of Xiaomi's major chip development. Lei Jun stated that many people mocked the Surge SoC for not having a follow-up, but I want to say that it is not our "black history"; it is our journey. Lei Jun mentioned that the Surge project was initiated in September 2014. In 2017, Xiaomi's first mobile phone chip, the Surge S1, was officially unveiled, targeting the mid-to-high-end market. Later, due to various reasons, the development of the major SoC chip faced setbacks and was paused, but the spark of chip development was still retained, shifting towards the "small chip" route. Lei Jun stated that subsequently, various Surge chips from Xiaomi were successively launched, including fast charging chips, battery management chips, imaging chips, antenna enhancement chips, and other "small chips," gradually accumulating experience and capabilities in different technology tracks. "Over the years, many Mi fans have been asking whether Xiaomi will still develop major chips," Lei Jun said. "There are also various misleading rumors online, and many people mock the Surge SoC for not having a follow-up, but I want to say that it is not our 'black history'; it is our journey."
