Google releases Veo 3 AI video generator to compete with OpenAI Sora

According to Zhitong Finance APP, Google (GOOG.US, GOOGL.US) officially launched its latest artificial intelligence video generation tool, Veo 3, on Tuesday. It has the capability to generate videos while synchronously embedding sound effects, becoming a strong competitor to OpenAI's Sora. Google stated that Veo 3 can not only generate high-quality videos based on text and image prompts but also automatically add sound effects, including character dialogues and animal sounds, to create a more realistic audio-visual experience. Eli Collins, Vice President of Product at Google DeepMind, said, "From text and image prompts to real-world physical effects and precise lip-syncing, Veo 3 performs exceptionally well." This tool is currently available to users in the United States, and can be accessed by subscribing to Google's new Ultra membership plan (priced at $249.99 per month), which is primarily aimed at AI enthusiasts. Additionally, Veo 3 will be included in Google's Vertex AI platform for enterprise customers. In addition to Veo 3, Google also launched several new products related to generative AI, including Imagen 4, an upgraded image generation model that can produce higher quality and more realistic images based on user prompts, and Flow, a film production assistance tool that allows users to generate cinematic videos simply by describing scenes, shots, and style preferences. This tool can be accessed through Gemini, Whisk, Vertex AI, and Workspace. The launch of these new products comes as generative AI is increasingly being applied in the fields of image and video creation. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman revealed in March that the image generation feature of its ChatGPT 4o became so popular that it even caused computing chips to "overheat," forcing the company to temporarily limit its use. However, Google's history in the field of AI image generation has not been smooth sailing. In 2024, Google faced widespread criticism for the Imagen 3 model generating images with historical inaccuracies, leading to the tool being re-released. Co-founder Sergey Brin later admitted that the issue stemmed from "insufficient testing." In addition to launching Veo 3, Google also announced an update to Veo 2, adding the ability to add or remove objects in videos through text prompts.
