The U.S. Court of Appeals allows Trump's tariffs to temporarily remain in effect

On Thursday local time, a federal appeals court temporarily suspended a ruling by a group of judges that forced Trump to pause several tariffs imposed on international trade partners. The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit stated in a brief ruling: "The judgments and permanent injunctions made by the International Trade Court in these cases will be temporarily stayed until further notice, while this court considers whether the stay should be extended." This decision delays the lower court's ruling at least until June 9, when both parties will submit legal arguments on whether the case should be stayed, and the appeals court will weigh the issues in the case. The judges of the U.S. International Trade Court ruled in yesterday's decision that the International Emergency Economic Powers Act cited by Trump in several of his executive orders does not "grant the president unlimited tariff authority."
