China's 2025 New Energy Vehicle "Going to the Countryside" campaign is about to begin. The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the National Development and Reform Commission, the Ministry of Commerce, and other five departments jointly issued a notice to deploy the 2025 New Energy Vehicle "Going to the Countryside" campaign, covering 124 models, including domestic brands, joint venture brands, and foreign brands, encompassing passenger cars and small commercial vehicles. The American brand Tesla (TSLA.US) has entered the "Going to the Countryside" vehicle directory for the first time.

The notice states that the campaign's theme is "Green, Low Carbon, Intelligent, Safe—Empowering the New Countryside, Enjoying New Mobility," involving 124 models, an increase of 25 models compared to last year, with the addition of Tesla Model Y and Model 3 this year. Tesla confirmed to mainland media that this is the first time it has been included in the "New Energy Vehicle Going to the Countryside Vehicle Directory."

Among domestic brands, BYD (01211.HK) has 11 models "going to the countryside," Changan Automobile (000625.SZ) (including Avita) has 15 models, Dongfeng has 10 models, and Geely (00175.HK) has over 10 models. Other car manufacturers participating in the New Energy Vehicle Going to the Countryside campaign include XPeng (09868.HK) (XPEV.US). The products include plug-in hybrid SUVs, new energy commercial vehicles, and various models, with prices ranging from tens of thousands to hundreds of thousands of RMB, expected to stimulate the consumption potential of new energy vehicles in rural areas.

The New Energy Vehicle Going to the Countryside campaign started in 2020 and has been held for five consecutive years, releasing nine batches of over 400 new energy vehicle models for the countryside, with cumulative sales of nearly 15 million vehicles.

Data from the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers shows that from January to April this year, the production of new energy vehicles was 4.429 million units, a year-on-year increase of 48.3%; sales reached 4.3 million units, a year-on-year increase of 46.2%, accounting for 42.7% of total new car sales
