ASML CEO: The US chip export ban will only backfire
According to a report by The New York Times on June 5 local time, ASML CEO Christoph Huijsmans stated that the U.S. tariff policy has brought more challenges to economic development and increased uncertainty. The inability to ensure reasonable production costs for chips has also weakened the possibility of building chip factories in the U.S. Huijsmans believes that the chip export ban imposed by the U.S. will only backfire; instead of suppressing competitors, it is better to focus on innovation. He emphasized that China has already begun to independently develop domestic lithography equipment, stating, "Those you are trying to stop will work even harder to succeed; no matter how many obstacles you set, it won't help." Huijsmans noted that the U.S. government's policies could undermine supply chains that have existed for decades and slow down the development of new technologies such as artificial intelligence
