According to Zhitong Finance APP, NVIDIA (NVDA.US) and Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE.US) are collaborating with the Leibniz Supercomputing Centre in Germany to build a new supercomputer named &#34;Blue Lion.&#34; Additionally, NVIDIA has launched a so-called &#34;cBottle&#34; model, claiming it to be the world's first generative artificial intelligence (AI) foundational model designed to simulate global climate at a kilometer resolution.
NVIDIA stated that the &#34;Blue Lion&#34; supercomputer will be manufactured by Hewlett Packard Enterprise and will utilize next-generation HPE Cray technology, equipped with NVIDIA graphics processing units (GPUs).
This supercomputer will adopt the NVIDIA Vera Rubin architecture. Vera Rubin is a super chip that combines the Rubin GPU (the successor to Blackwell) and the Vera CPU (NVIDIA's first custom CPU).
The computing power of this supercomputer is approximately 30 times higher than that of the current LRZ high-performance computer SuperMUC-NG.
NVIDIA indicated that &#34;Blue Lion&#34; will support collaborative research projects across Europe.
Last month, the U.S. Department of Energy announced that its new supercomputer Doudna will utilize technology from NVIDIA and Dell Technologies. Doudna will deploy Vera Rubin.
According to media reports, the &#34;Blue Lion&#34; supercomputer is expected to be operational by early 2027.
Additionally, NVIDIA has launched the &#34;cBottle&#34; AI model. As part of NVIDIA's Earth-2 platform, this model can generate realistic atmospheric states and can be adjusted based on input conditions such as the time of day, date of the year, and sea surface temperature. The AI chip giant stated that this provides a new way to understand and predict the Earth's most complex natural systems.
NVIDIA stated that with cBottle, prediction speeds can be thousands of times faster than traditional numerical models, with higher energy efficiency, while maintaining accuracy.
NVIDIA added that research institutions, including the Max Planck Institute for Meteorology (MPI-M) and the Allen Institute for Artificial Intelligence (Ai2), are exploring the use of cBottle to compress, extract, and transform Earth observation data and ultra-high-resolution climate simulations into queryable interactive generative AI systems
