Intel introduces new engineering leadership team to support transformation plan

According to Zhitong Finance APP, Intel (INTC.US) has appointed a new engineering leadership team to align with the company's transformation plan driven by CEO Chen Liwu. Intel announced on Wednesday that three executives, Srinivasan Iyengar, Jean-Didier Allegrucci, and Shailendra Desai, will join the company in key engineering positions. Additionally, Intel has promoted current sales head Greg Ernst to Chief Revenue Officer. Since taking over as CEO in March this year, Chen Liwu has been committed to restoring Intel's talent advantage in engineering and has pointed out that the company needs to create products that better meet customer needs. He has also announced a layoff plan and reforms to streamline management levels. One of the biggest challenges facing Chen Liwu is the comprehensive reform of Intel's AI chips. Compared to Nvidia (NVDA.US)'s rapid growth in the artificial intelligence computing market, Intel's related products have performed poorly and are on the fringes of this AI boom. As CEO, Chen Liwu also needs to find more customers for Intel's vast network of fabs. It is reported that Greg Ernst currently oversees Intel's sales and marketing department and will take on the important task of establishing closer ties with customers in the future. He has worked at Intel for over 20 years and has held various sales and product development-related positions. Srinivasan Iyengar will serve as Senior Vice President, responsible for the newly established "Customer Engineering Excellence Center," and will report directly to Chen Liwu. He previously worked at Cadence (CDNS.US), a company focused on chip design software, where Chen Liwu himself served as CEO for over a decade. Jean-Didier Allegrucci will oversee AI system-on-chip (SoC) engineering, responsible for the future product development of Intel's artificial intelligence chips. He previously worked at the startup Rain AI, and before that, he spent 17 years at Apple (AAPL.US), where he was involved in the development of over 30 chips. Shailendra Desai joins Intel from Google (GOOGL.US). After Google acquired the startup Provino Technologies he founded in 2021, he became Google's head of silicon engineering. He will lead the development of AI graphics processors at Intel, which is a key step for Intel to directly challenge Nvidia
