Toyota and its luxury brand Lexus saw sales growth of over 4% in the Japanese market, 7% in the Chinese market, and an 11% increase in the North American market. A Toyota spokesperson revealed last week that the company will raise prices on some models sold in the U.S. next month, with increases exceeding $200, as part of regular price adjustments based on market conditions and competition. Statistics show that two-thirds of Japan's workforce is employed by companies with fewer than 1,000 employees, many of which are directly or indirectly related to the automotive industry. According to the Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association, the industry employs 5.6 million people, accounting for about 8.3% of Japan's workforce, and generates approximately 10% of Japan's gross domestic product. Japan's chief trade negotiator Ryosei Akazawa stated on Thursday that Japan cannot accept Trump's proposed 25% tariff on automobiles.
