The controversy over the discontinuation of the Mustang Mach-E continues to escalate, with Ford's electric vehicle sales plunging more than 30% in Q2

According to Zhitong Finance APP, Ford Motor (F.US) saw a 31.4% plunge in electric vehicle sales in the second quarter. Previously, the automaker had ordered dealers to suspend sales of its electric Mustang Mach-E model due to safety concerns that could potentially lock passengers inside the vehicle. Ford stated that the decline in sales was primarily due to the suspension order for the Mach-E and inventory shortages of its two main electric vehicle models caused by factory shutdowns for upgrades to the 2025 electric vehicle. Company spokesperson Said Deep said, "Dealers have no cars to sell. The inventory of Mach-E, which is expected to be allowed for sale starting in July, will gradually recover." Dealers are eagerly awaiting Ford to fix the "door locking" defect of the Mach-E—this issue could lead to children or pets being trapped inside the vehicle, and the company warned that "it could cause serious injury, especially in high-temperature weather." Currently, Ford has recalled approximately 317,000 Mach-E vehicles to fix the software malfunction of the electronic door locks. "The Mach-E was our sales champion, but now it has been forced to stop sales," said Beau Boeckmann, president of Galpin Motors, the largest Ford dealer in Southern California. "The sudden halt just before the Memorial Day promotion has had a huge impact on business." Specific data shows that sales of the Mustang Mach-E fell 19.5% to 10,178 units in the second quarter; deliveries of the F-150 Lightning electric pickup dropped 26.1% to 5,842 units. In contrast, sales of gasoline and hybrid versions of the F-Series pickups reached 216,617 units during the same period. The sales of the electric van E-Transit were even more dismal, with only 418 units sold in three months, a decline of 88%, including just 97 units sold in May alone. In stark contrast to the downturn in electric vehicles, Ford's overall sales grew by 14.2%.
