
Cui Dongshu from the China Passenger Car Association: From January to June, China's automobile imports decreased by 32% year-on-year
Cui Dongshu, Secretary-General of the Passenger Car Association, stated in a post on August 7 that 220,000 imported cars were sold from January to June 2025, a year-on-year decrease of 32%, marking a significant decline for this period. In June, 43,000 imported cars were sold, down 30% year-on-year and down 9% compared to May. After reaching a peak of 1.43 million imported cars in 2014, the numbers have been declining. The growth rate of imports stabilized slightly in 2016-2017, but has continued to decline since 2018. The scale of imports is expected to sharply decrease in 2024, with only 700,000 imports for the entire year, a year-on-year decrease of 12%.
