Belgian telecom operator suffers cyber attack, 850,000 customer records accessed without authorization

On August 20th local time, Belgian telecommunications operator Orange issued a statement saying that the company suffered a cyber attack at the end of July, resulting in unauthorized access to data from 850,000 customer accounts. The statement indicated that hackers breached a system containing information such as names, phone numbers, SIM card information, PUK codes, and tariff plans. However, the company stated that critical data such as customer passwords, email addresses, or financial information were not compromised. The telecommunications operator reported that it has notified the relevant authorities and filed a formal complaint with the judicial department
