13:58 ET ISS National Lab-Sponsored Experiment Tests 3D Bioprinted Tissue for Growing Artificial Livers

The Wake Forest Institute for Regenerative Medicine is sending a 3D bioprinted liver tissue experiment to the International Space Station to study how microgravity affects tissue maturation. Sponsored by the ISS National Laboratory, the project aims to improve regenerative medicine and tissue engineering. The experiment will utilize Redwire Space's Multi-Use Variable-Gravity Platform to assess cell behavior and functionality in microgravity. The mission is set for launch on August 24, 2025, and is part of NASA's Vascular Tissue Challenge, which promotes innovations in tissue engineering for space exploration and health on Earth.
