European stock markets fell, with wind energy-related stocks leading the decline, after Orsted A/S's project in the United States was halted. The French stock market also declined as Prime Minister François Bayrou called for a confidence vote. The Stoxx Europe 600 index closed down 0.4%. The UK market was closed for a holiday. The CAC 40 index in France widened its losses towards the end of trading, falling alongside French bonds, after Bayrou announced a confidence vote would be initiated on September 8. The benchmark index fell by 1.6%, with BNP Paribas down 3.5%, AXA SA down 3.8%, and Engie SA down 2.4%
