Meituan and JD.com compete for "offline discount stores," Liu Qiangdong makes an appearance to support
The online food delivery battle may turn into an offline discount war. On August 30, JD.com's discount supermarket opened four stores in Suqian, the hometown of the company's founder Liu Qiangdong. JD.com stated that this discount supermarket is backed by JD's supply chain system, with many specialty products sourced directly from their origin, eliminating the markup from intermediaries. The day before, on August 29, Liu Qiangdong also appeared in Suqian to promote the opening of the discount supermarket. In addition to JD.com, Meituan and Hema have also made recent moves. On August 29, Meituan's self-operated supermarket Happy Monkey opened its first store in Hangzhou, and although it did not directly label itself as a discount store, it highlighted "good products at affordable prices." On the same day, Hema NB announced its name change to "Super Box Calculation NB." Since the launch of the food delivery battle in April, the three internet platforms have now simultaneously updated their actions in the offline discount retail sector
