TrendForce: It is expected that the market value of Micro LED chips will reach 461 million USD by 2029

TrendForce expects the Micro LED chip market to reach USD 461 million by 2029, benefiting from the launch of key products such as Samsung's 140-inch Micro LED TV in 2023 and the Garmin Fenix 8 Pro smartwatch in 2025. Although Micro LED faces challenges of high power consumption and high costs, its brightness demand in outdoor environments and the potential for integrating sensors provide opportunities for future innovations. As the technology matures and costs are optimized, Micro LED will achieve commercialization in areas such as televisions, smartwatches, and automotive displays
According to Zhitong Finance APP, TrendForce indicates that the penetration rate of Micro LED in consumer electronics is accelerating. Following Samsung's launch of a 140-inch Micro LED TV in 2023, Garmin's Fenix 8 Pro smartwatch will also introduce related technology in 2025. Additionally, the Sony Honda Afeela 30-inch automotive display, expected to be released at the end of the same year, marks the beginning of Micro LED's coverage in various major fields. The launch of these flagship products will gradually drive the market value of Micro LED chips, which is expected to reach USD 461 million by 2029.

TrendForce points out that the market's acceptance of the current high power consumption and high price of Micro LED remains a significant challenge, making it difficult to compete with more mature and cost-effective OLED technology in the short term. However, Micro LED can meet the extreme brightness demands of outdoor environments for sports watches and has the potential for highly integrated sensing components, paving the way for future product innovation and differentiation.
The Garmin Fenix 8 Pro relies on AUO as a key supplier in the supply chain, combining PlayNitride (approximately 15×30μm Micro LED chips), Raydium (Micro LED driver IC), and AUO's self-developed image calibration technology to provide a 1.39-inch display. This not only demonstrates that the early layout of the Micro LED industry chain is gradually maturing but also signifies that with the expansion of application areas, technology maturity and cost optimization will reach new heights.
Micro LED is gradually achieving commercialization across various fields, from TVs and smartwatches to automotive displays, with each flagship product launch symbolizing a technological breakthrough. With advantages in high brightness and high contrast, Micro LED has already been adopted by some new smart glasses brands. In the future, as international manufacturers join and Micro LED light source suppliers promote the technology, it will gradually emerge in near-eye display devices, contributing to the overall value of the industry
