Bloomberg cited sources reporting that China Southern Power Grid is in deep negotiations to acquire a controlling stake in the Chilean transmission company Transelec, with a transaction valuation potentially exceeding $4 billion. If the deal is completed, it will become one of China's largest overseas mergers and acquisitions projects this year.
It is reported that China Southern Power Grid already holds nearly 28% of Transelec's shares and is currently working with Patria Investments and a Chinese sovereign wealth fund to jointly acquire the shares of Transelec held by three Canadian pension funds. The transaction could be finalized in the coming weeks, but it still requires approval from Chilean regulatory authorities
